Our Safe Environment Program
The Child & Youth Protection unit of the Trenton Diocese
works with parishes and schools to ensure that all employees
and volunteers who have regular contact with children or vulnerable adults receive the proper training and have current criminal background checks on file. This training gives employees and volunteers the safety tools necessary not only for their work in the Catholic Church, but in
all areas and aspects of their lives. The Child & Youth Protection unit
also assists parishes and schools with implementing and scheduling
VIRTUS training programs for both adults and children.
The following training program is currently offered
through VIRTUS at www.virtusonline.org:
VIRTUS Protecting God's Children for Adults is a program that helps adult volunteers and employees to recognize the warning signs of a potential offender, and how to appropriately respond. New employees and volunteers are required to attend a 3-hour session. Certification expires after 4 years of service, at which time they are required to
attend a re-certification session, which is only 1.5 hours.

Diocese of Trenton: Our Promise to Protect
The Diocese of Trenton is committed to the initiatives outlined in the U.S. Bishop’s Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People
in regard to the reporting and investigation of sexual abuse allegations involving minors. If you have been sexually abused as a minor by a member of the clergy or anyone representing the Catholic Church,
or if you know of someone who was, you can report that abuse
through the Diocesan Abuse Hotline (1-888-296-2965)
or via email at [email protected]
The Diocese of Trenton reports any allegations of sexual abuse
to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
Anyone with an allegation is also encouraged to provide that information
to local law enforcement authorities.
