The purpose of a prayer shawl is to give someone, who is suffering, a
tangible example of God’s love and care in order that they will feel that
the arms of God are wrapped around them thus consoling them.
The maker of the shawl prays while they are sewing it for whomever is
to receive it that they will be comforted in whatever circumstances they
are in.
Sometimes we know whom we are making the shawl for, and sometimes
we do not, but we pray for the person who receives it just the same. Thus,
the blessing ripples from person-to-person, with both giver and receiver
feeling the unconditional embrace of God’s love.
St John Neumann wishes to sow the seeds of love with this beautiful
endeavor of making prayer shawls and giving them to people.
If you are interested in learning more about the Prayer Shawl ministry,
come and join us. If you do not know how to crochet we will try to teach
you. We meet the 1st Thursday of the month around 10:30 AM in
the Parish Hall. More details are in the weekly bulletin.
We will also accept contributions of yarn in order to make these shawls.
