Baptism is a ceremony of entry into the Catholic Church;
more importantly, entry into the new life that was opened to us
as a result of Christ's Death and Resurrection. We are all born
with the stain of original sin on our souls because of the first sin
of Adam and Eve. Baptism washes away this stain, introduces
sanctifying grace to the soul, and creates a permanent
spiritual mark of a new life in Christ Jesus.
Are you looking to celebrate your child's
Baptism at St. John Neumann Church?
First, you will need to call or visit the parish office
to fill out a registration form. You do not need to
be a registered parishioner of St. John Neumann
in order to have your child baptized at our church.
The role and responsibility of a godparent is to be an example of Christian living throughout the life of the person being baptized.
Godparents should be practicing Catholics -- one man
and one woman, OR one man OR one woman --
registered with a parish. A letter of eligibility to be
a godparent must be obtained from their parish
before the Baptism can be scheduled.
If a godparent is a registered and active parishioner
with St. John Neumann Church, no letter is needed.
If a godparent is unable to obtain a letter, they will be
recorded as a Catholic Witness, but may still fulfill
the godparent role to the best of their ability.
If a godparent is non-Catholic, they will be
recorded as a Witness, but may still fulfill
the godparent role to the best of their ability.
Once your child's Baptism is scheduled, parents are required
to complete a virtual Baptism prep class through our parish.
(This is only if they have not already had a child baptized
at St. John Neumann Church within the last 4 years.)
All necessary information regarding fees and details about the
ceremony will be provided via email, prior to the date of Baptism.
